'Twas mid-day, and the summer's sun was high ;
Nature seem'd sick'ning 'neath its burning glare; No shadowing clouds were hanging in the sky,
No cooling breath was in the sultry air. I saw around me no refreshing shade, No shadowy rocks to screen my naked head ; No cooling breezes fann'd my throbbing brow,— Languid, I droop'd beneath that fervid glow. S
